WEEK 3 IN ITALIA: HOW TO GET STRANDED IN FLORENCE AT 3 AM
HOW TO GET STRANDED IN FLORENCE 101:
- Decide to leave Cinque Terre at night.
- Don’t buy tickets ahead of time.
- Be a cheapskate and not willing to spend €40 or so on a train ticket.
As you can see, I’m catching up a little on these posts over here. But week 3, Kortney and I went to Florence and Cinque Terre! We started out with Florence which was absolutely beautiful (as you can see from the Santa Maria Cathedral above). We literally turned the corner and gasped in awe. One of the prettiest, most intricate buildings I’ve ever seen. We left the next morning for Cinque Terre, which was also beautiful. We took a ferry on the coastline which is a MUST if you travel there! We ended up leaving Cinque Terre Sunday night, which I didn’t think would be a problem. However, we were still very new to this whole transportation thing in Italy. We landed in Florence, and decided we would just wait it out in the train station…that is until we found out that the train station would close. We were panicked (we had a right to be) especially because our phones were completely out of battery, as was our portable charger. We found some kind hotel staff that let us charge our devices. Then we spent about 3 or so hours in a cafe waiting for 3 am to arrive (we finally were able to purchase bus tickets). We definitely learned a lot of what not to do concerning transportation during this trip! (Which has helped immensely in the trips following!)
